So this week is going to be short and packed.

Sun-Mon are ordinary work days (blaurgh), but Tuesday is half a day and Wednesday is a holiday. We have the Rolling Stones concert on Wednesday as well, which will be AWESOME, hopefully. We'll probably get there quite early to find a good spot.

And Thursday is our flight, and Friday... GODI'MSOEXCITED!!!! Yes, I'm super excited for the Tori Amos concert, no surprises there.

Well, thank the universe, it was not one of the ugliest, most disgusting viruses alive, like the one I cought back in March.

Even though yesterday I felt like there was fucking LEAD inside my limbs, the feeling is gone today, and besides a stuffy nose, some dryness in my throat and the hint of a headache, I'm much better. There's still soreness in my musceles, but again. it's much better today.

To celebrate, I went through my generic "List-for-Trips" I've been maintaining for the past 7 years, to make sure it's updated for Vienna.

As it turns out, it wasn't, but it is now.

...and as extra preperations, I'm listening to all my Tori Amos songs now. Hee.

I think I'm hungry.

Wondering

Let's see how much of "Little Earthquakes" can play before ME comes to harass me.

ETA 8:42: Well, I've finished LE and it's gone on to "Under the Pink".
tamara_russo: (Sleeps with butterflies)
Alone at the office at 7:45. I kinda like it at these hours - all alone and quiet - and I can put on some music with normal volume (I will say nothing about my Ipod's choice of a wintery-morning-song - "Ireland", of all the summer songs there are).

It's raining like crazy outside and my shoes and socks are half wet, which is annoying. I hope this day will leave most people at home (but I know it won't) or at least make most people late so I can have the time to myself.

Now back to the water tank I'm planning (and the oil tank that will be attached to it).

"Tower of Song" is a better choice now.

*~*

I really need a work icon.

ETA (9:30):Everybody's here. Crap.

WOOT!

WE HAVE THE TICKETS!!!!!!!

Tori Amos, October 11th in Berlin! My mom calls and says "Were you supposed to get something from Germany?" And I was like "YEEEEESSSSS!!!!! THE TICKETS!!!"

Phew.

Dancing around.

Yey!

The perfect birthday gift - Tori has a new album and tour!!!!!!!!!. Much squeeing went on this morning when I found out, but quietly, since half the house was still asleep.

Spent my birthday yesterday answering tons of phone-calls and quite a lot of texts and facebook congratulations and probably failing a quiz I had. I'm not really troubled (it won't count if the test score is higher, see, so no harm done), but I needed to be away from learning for a while so I ditched the next two classes and went straight to work. Also had a lab meeting for the same class I had the morning quiz at, which was really fine (we finished 45 minutes earlier), and the evening was spent with my family, watching Manchester beat the shit out of Schalke in the champions league semi-final.

Good day, and my party is tomorrow. :)

1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List (and upload/link) 5 songs you love that begin with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.

Hagar gave me L.

1. Lust - Tori Amos - That song makes me shudder every time I listen to it. One of her not common songs, worth much more than a single listening. Beautiful.

2. Lullaby - The cure - This is such a great song with layers of music - the cello, the drums, the singing, everything comes together perfectly, and masks the true nature of this scary song. Disturbing video, as well, and one of the only songs my siblings and I love together.

3. Life on Mars - David Bowie - Probably the only song by David Bowie I truly, madly love. And it's only because of the show (British). And because of this last scene on the roof. This. This is pure genius.

4. La Isla Bonita - Madonna - Forever my Eilat song (it came out 1987, see, and we went on a holiday in Eilat, I wasn't even five, and my mom was pregnant with my brother). To this day, this song makes me want to sunbathe.

5. Let the sunshine in - From "Hair" - one of the saddest fucking songs ever.

Day 13: A song you sing in the shower.

I'll give you two today because they go together - I don't usually have a lot of time in the morning, so I time myself according to two songs - "Crucify" and "A Sorta Fairytale", both of the Tori Amos'. i do that because I know how long they are (the original, CD versions) - 10 minutes all together - so I know how long it takes me to get in the shower, wash my hair, brush my teeth, do my hair and if I'm quick enough do my make up as well, all inside these two songs.

"Crucify":

And "A Sorta Fairytale" (and please, if you have the time, listen to it's original version, which is a lot better, though I quite like this video):

and the longer, better version, with no video:

*This is the third time Tori appears here in this meme, with two more songs...

Day 5 - Your favorite female singer.

Tori, second time. This is one of my favorite songs of her, from her latest "Abnormally attracted to sin", and I have to admit, up until a minute ago I had no idea this video even existed. I've said it before, on a few occasions, but she just doesn't pass well on videos. I love her live (on the one occasion I saw her she was beyond amazing), but all of her videos made me feel like she doesn't show all she has in them. That said - this is a very nice video. Pleasant surprise, there.

Enjoy.

tamara_russo: (Sleeps with butterflies)
Day 1 - your favorite song

Easy. So fucking easy. There isn't a normal video, but I really like this one TV show version.

Post 5 songs (or more) that start with the letter you're given. Let me know if you'd like a letter.

[personal profile] sasha_feather gave me the letter A.

1. "Almost Unreal" - Roxette. Ahhh, the carefree days of my youth... *sigh*. The "Mario Brothers" movie was very stupid (though cute at the time), but it's real big thing was this song, and its video. I loved it from the moment I heard it, and it's still one of my favorites.

"Sometimes I feel, strange as it seems, you've been in my dreams all my life"

2. "Angel" - Sarah McLachlan. So fucking sad, and for a while I listened to it in loops (last year, March). Still makes me cry most of the times.

"Storm keeps on twisting, keep on building the lies, that you make up for all that you lack"

3. "Are you out there" - Dar Williams. Oh, such a sweet song! Another one of those I spent an afternoon listening to.

"What's the future, who will choose it/politics of love and music"

4. "Anna Rose" - Vienna Teng. If I'll ever have a daughter I'll be singing her to sleep with that song. The simplicity of this song, the beautiful lyrics, Vienna Teng's voice, it's just amazing.

"Anna Rose, it's time to dream/I see that your imagination has no bounds"

5. "A Sorta Fairytale" - Tori Amos. My dad and I both made once out "top 100" most beloved songs of all times. This is my number 2 (number 1 is "Winter"). Without a doubt beautiful, incredible song. I need only to close my eyes to see that road in Navada, where there is nothing around but desert. Of course, my journal title is taken from that song.

"Like A good book, I can't put this day back"

Yesterday was my mom's first exhibition, which meant we were all recruited to work - starting from helping her with making pages for people to write their details on and ending with carrying (what felt like) half our house over to a friend's house*.

I worked as saleswoman for two hours before my dad showed me the time and we got going. We had a show to go to - a tribute night to Tori Amos, in a club in TA, arranged by the daughter of one of my mom's friends. The show was wonderful - most performers were women, of course (one was a guy, and he sang "Me and a gun", no less. Did it quite well, and I have to admit, it takes balls for a guy to sing a song like that**). My favorites was a girl named Savana (American) who gave a beautiful version of both "Winter" and "Silent all these years" and a Turkish girl, can't remember her name, who also did her own kind of change to "Crucify". I had a lovely time, and so did my dad. We went back to my mom's friend's house and helped her get everything organized and back home. I was even able to slip in one episode of CSI Miami before turning in (I hit the Merisol storyline. Horatio with her is incredibly sweet).

I also finally converted all my music and uploaded it to my iPod.

*If you don't know, my mom makes jewelery, expensive jewelery, and she sells her stuff to her friends and people who hear about her from them. Our house is impossible to host an exhibition in, since we have dogs who bark at everyone and cats who stink up the place.

**She wrote that song about a rape she survived in the 80's after watching "Thelma and Louise" and she sings it with no music. It's a very difficult song.

I don't know why these two talk in my head, but they do.

"Martha's Foolish Ginger"'s version is the best I could find.

Real Men

I don't like most of Tori Amos' covers, but this one is just good. This is a live performance she did back in 2001 in a TV show. Enjoy.

and the lyrics:

Real Men - written by Joe Jackson, performed by Tori Amos
Take your mind back - I don't know when
Sometime when it always seemed
To be just us and them
Girls that wore pink
And boys that wore blue
Boys that always grew up better men
Than me and you

What's a man now - what's a man mean
Is he rough or is he rugged
Is he cultural and clean
Now it's all change - it's got to change more
'Cause we think it's getting better
But nobody's really sure

And so it goes - go round again
But now and then we wonder who the real men are

See the nice boys - dancing in pairs
Golden earring golden tan
Blow-wave in the hair
Sure they're all straight - straight as a line
All the gays are macho
Can't you see their leather shine

You don't want to sound dumb - don't want to offend
So don't call me a faggot
Not unless you are a friend
Then if you're tall and handsome and strong
You can wear the uniform and I could play along

And so it goes - go round again
But now and then we wonder who the real men are

Time to get scared - time to change plan
Don't know how to treat a lady
Don't know how to be a man
Time to admit - what you call defeat
'Cause there's women running past you now
And you just drag your feet

Man makes a gun - man goes to war
Man can kill and man can drink
And man can take a whore
Kill all the blacks - kill all the reds
And if there's war between the sexes
Then there'll be no people left

And so it goes - go round again
But now and then we wonder who the real men are

That's over.

I missed it. All of it. Crap.

Shit.

ETA - The dance show. It's here because It's supposed to have been on today. It was cool, not as good as the last few I've seen. "Trout", Inbal Pinto and Avshalom Pollack. On a stage flooded with water.

Notes:

* Costumes were beautiful - when they soaked up the water they had more fluidity and motion. It was different and gorgeous.

* The girl with the old-time evening gown was making violin-like noises with her mouth. WTF?

* Two maids, two other girls, upper, one guy, a lot of chalk writing on the wall and a flamingo costumed guy. Funny.

* At the end there was a small piece by Talia Beck. Was very nice.

Don't really have the edge to tell it all.

Dear me.

A twitter account is now in place. I wouldn't have, but Tori Amos is releasing some stuff for Facebook and Twitter, and that's the better of the two.

So - This is me.

Their server is awful!

Also, I've 23 invites to g-wave... If anyone wants one.

Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!".
I will then give you five words that remind me of you.
Then post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you.

Mel gave me these. )

Can someone explain this to me - what does Poland have that's better than here?
tamara_russo: (Default)
