Last night my mom decided she was making us Hanuka dinner. This meant Sufganiut and Latkes. Oil, oil, oil.... My sister and her husband came over and my dad came home from work and we all sat down and ate until exploding. My mom only said she wished Udi was here as well. We had a really good time sitting all of us together, talking and laughing.

On Monday evening when I got back from work I thought I might pay my grandparents a visit. The minute I walked into their house My grandma says: "So, what do you want to eat?" I told her I just ate, but it's like talking to a brick wall on the subject. She tempted me with chestnuts, home made cookies and strawberries (three things I can't resist). I sat with them for about an hour and a half before I went home, and I could tell it really did them good. I love talking to them - they are both very special people - non of them had a lot of official education, but my grandma came from a very wealthy house, and she attended good schools when she was young. My grandad escaped from Poland in 1939, when he was 17, and he has no formal schooling beyond the basic, but he has taught himself several languages and reads so much even I can't compete with his quota. He's been solving crossword-puzzles ever since I can remember, and they both have a lot of awareness to culture, art and the world around them. They also act quite modern (let's say I know people my age who live in the stone age compare to them), which make talking to them a fun experience as well as intellectually stimulating.
