My dad has two siblings - Rafi, who is married to Yoela and Dassie, who is married to Chuck (they live in the states). Yoela has two sisters, Zvia and Orit, and they always come over to Rafi and Yoela at holidays and Saturdays, and we meet them all the time.
When I was little I didn't like any of them, being that I was, well, a kid and didn't really know how to define what I like and what I don't. Rafi and Yoela were always much colder than Nechama's family (my mom's sister), and the connection with their kids was non-existent, and Zvia and Orit were included in that bundle. The only exception was Yosef, Yoela's dad, who I loved very much (who died a couple of years ago).
When I grew up I realized I did like Zvia and Orit - Orit's kids were much friendlier than Rafi's, and both Zvia and Orit are very nice people who don't treat people with the same snobbish disdain my aunt and uncle are contaminated with. We became closer and closer, and nowadays I love them all very much - Zvia, Orit and her two kids.
Zvia has had cancer for a few years now. The last few times I saw her she looked horrible (she never did look anything great - she was very over-weight and smoked like a chimney). On Wednesday she had a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital, and she died on Friday, after two days in a coma.
I'll miss her quite a lot more than I ever though I'd be able to.
