The Alethiometer
Aug. 4th, 2010 11:24 pmPassing through five of the Tillerman Cycle novels, I cam across the thought of the Alethiometer. It wasn't the truth that needed to be found, it's the holding down of meanings I've thought of. When I read, I make these jumps - up and down meanings, and today was the worst (reading "Come a Stranger" I got to thinking if Mina would have voted for Barak Obama, and how old was she now, and the black rights in the US, and our own prejudices here). I held the meanings in my head and made those jumps, those jumps no one else but me makes because I'm the only me.
And then riddles - how they're the same. We have one on the paper every day - called hidato - that needs to look a few steps ahead, and thinking about it strategy games do as well.
So that was the thought today. It was a good thought.
And now I see how it all comes together, and the layers all connect (yes, I watched "Inception" yesterday).
I love going down paths like this one. Especially when the alternative is Elasticity studying.
