So I've about 1200 NIS from my grandma, my mom, my sister and my aunt, and I was really looking forward to getting a nice digital camera, only...

I'm not really interested in what my mom calls "family cameras", I want something with a bit more to it (manual focus, for example). After a long and hard search we came with only cameras that cost in the surroundings of 2000 NIS (I don't mind adding some money of my own, but 900 NIS is a bit much). So I gave up on that idea, and went looking for a digital-graphic pad for painting on the computer. The story repeats itself - nothing good (as people recommend on forums and such, and, mind you, I'm looking for amateur stuff but of the better kind) under ~2200 NIS.

Check these out. It's all <2k NIS, good companies only, 7Mpx and up, x10 optical zoom and up. At least the DSC series lets you choose between manual and (several modes of) automatic focus, and i'm pretty sure the others also give you the option.

You can narrow down the list further by omitting the ones without stabilizers, and checking only the ones with the fast memory cards - I don't remember which are those or i'd filter it for you.
