I'm better. Down time took a while, but it's over.

So - updates, and the photography will get a few posts on it's own:

[From recent events back]

I have my Visa, my plane ticket and my hotel booked. I'm leaving Wednesday night for a two-week-long vacation in New York, and I'm super excited about it. I haven't had a real vacation since Mel and I went to England and Irland in 2007, and I had a horrible year. I need a little time off, and I'm planning on going to all the big museums, do a bit of shopping and some culinary exploring. I hope I'll be able to update from there, but if not expect a flood of photos when I come back... :)

Like so many others I went to see Leonard Cohen on Thursday. I won't write a lot about it, since I think most people who have been there already know and those who haven't read about everywhere else... I'll just state that it was the best show I could expect, and I had a ton of fun (and some tears, of course). My parents came with me and they enjoyed it just as much as I did.

Now we have photos!

The crowd, before the show:

Quick report on the Madonna show – I didn't have much fun. Most of the show is about, well, the show, not the music (and she has great music, ton of soul in so many of her songs), and it bothered me to no end. The breaking point was Frozen. I'm sorry, but a dance version of this song? So, I dragged my mom out early, and I'll never go see her again. This is one artist the recorded version of her songs was that much better and full of emotion than the live version. I still love her, but I'll know better.

Hora was fantastic - it was my birthday gift to my sister. A new choreography for the Bat-Sheva dance group by Ohad Naharin. It was beautiful - there are 11 dancers on a green stage with nothing but a long bench, and they each come out to do some incredible solo, or duet, or with more dancers. The type of show you can't keep up with all the movements that are going on, and very minimalistic movement on other times. I liked the couples' duets near the end, one especially, and it made me think of the Paris opera house dance I saw a while ago, and made me realize, yet again, I much prefer the Israeli choreography. Much more imaginative. Good hour, that was. I came back with a huge smile.

OK. That's it for now. Wait for more photography.

The best pizza is in brooklyn
The best hotdogs are on the street outside central park (near the museums)
And walking is your friend:)

If so inclined, hop on the LIRR at Pennsation for Montauk Point. It's probably a 2 hour ride with a couple of change overs at Jamacia and Babylon, but it's very pretty out that way (and less populated)

Thanks for the tips! :)

As for the hotdogs - I'm a veggie, so won't take you up on this... The pizza thing is definite. :)

The last issue of Time Out Israel (which you can find online) has a big piece about NY.
